This project stems from growing concerns about the health impacts of ultra-processed foods and added sugars prevalent in the American diet. Inspired by studies linking these additives to diseases and climate issues, the project investigates U.S. food regulations and aims to raise public awareness of harmful ingredients hidden in everyday foods. It advocates for better food transparency and healthier choices for consumers.

The widespread use of food additives and misleading labeling in the U.S. food industry can lead consumers to unknowingly consume high levels of sugar and harmful additives, contributing to chronic health issues. The main challenge was to create a tool that empowers people to make informed dietary choices, promoting both individual health and environmental sustainability.

The project culminates in a mobile app concept that functions as a comprehensive health resource for food transparency. Key features include a sugar consumption tracker, label scanner, blockchain-based food tracking, and a community forum for sharing insights on healthier options. This app educates users on food content and provides actionable tools to limit sugar intake, choose less processed foods, and connect with others seeking healthier lifestyles. The Food Regulations project not only raises awareness but also actively supports better dietary habits, paving the way for a more health-conscious society and encouraging industry-wide changes in food labeling practices.
